Coaching Philosophy

As a coach, I speak my truths and look to help simplify the task for others. I encourage goal setting and assist in the process of reaching those goals.  I believe that if kids go outside and are ACTIVE, they will find new ways of being CONFIDENT.  My experience has shown me that when a kid is ACTIVE & CONFIDENT, overall they are HAPPIER beings.

 > B Active - B Confident - B Happy <

This applies to all ages and skill levels.

Therefore, my main focus as a coach is to attract a community of like-minded individuals by creating opportunities for student-athletes to play a variety of sports and try new things in a safe, positive, and uplifting environment.

TESTIMONIALS

Bryan Hergenroether is one of a kind. He has been a trusted mentor to my 3 sons ages 14, 12, 9, almost from the moment we first met him 7 years ago. He uses his singular skill as a sports coach to develop kids character, self awareness, and integrity. He is fun, kind, thoughtful, intuitive, insightful, caring. He loves his nature and is highly experienced leading wilderness trips and sharing his love of the outdoors. I would send my boys anywhere with Bryan and know they would be happy and better for it.

Our son started private basketball lessons with Bryan when he was 5. And over that time, we’ve had the good fortune to watch him excel at the sport he loves best.

But our son didn’t always feel so passionately about basketball. He liked it well enough at first, and then truly began to fall in love when he turned it into his craft and honed it. And Bryan has been instrumental in the process.

Please allow me to explain…

When dribbling through defenses proved to be awkward and frustrating, Bryan found a way to make it fun. This taught Soli to remain joyful. When Soli broke his right arm, Bryan helped him work on left-handed dribbles. This taught him grit. And during those seemingly long few months when Soli experienced bouts of separation anxiety, Bryan’s calm presence helped to ease the scary feelings. This taught him to trust.

Yes, Bryan is a basketball coach. But he’s also so much more than that. He’s a mentor, an empathic soul, and a friendly face when you need it most. I think kids have a way of feeling these things. I’m sure Soli did and still does.

Soli is now 9 years old and continues to play basketball every day. And we’re delighted to find that the confidence he’s achieved on the court has carried through to other aspects of his life.

In the meantime, Bryan has moved back to his childhood home of Santa Barbara, so we no longer have the pleasure of having him as our son’s basketball coach. But when Soli misses him a great deal, Bryan sends us notes and still manages to come by to visit from time to time. And this has taught us the meaning of friendship.
